Dr. Nancy Johnson

EdD, LMHC

Dr. Johnson is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.  Dr. Johnson graduated from Argosy University- Sarasota with a Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology.  She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in Oviedo, Florida, and a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan.

 

Prior to her counseling career, she spent 23 years working for a Christian organization called CRU, with college students in Nebraska, Kenya, Kansas, and Florida. She speaks regularly in support groups and conferences and continues to be involved in ministry ventures in Central Florida.

 

Dr. Johnson has experience working with adults, couples, and children of all ages, from diverse populations, on a variety of topics such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, addictions, gender and sexual orientation issues, personality disorders, and spirituality.  Dr. Johnson is passionate about family therapy and has found that when treating troubled teens, choosing to work with the entire family has brought about optimal results.

 

Nancy counsels from a Relational Model of counseling, holding to her core belief that an individual cannot heal or grow outside the context of significant and meaningful relationships.  She has a gift for creating a safe place for people to process their pain, as well as being able to bond with her clients in meaningful ways. She also incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) with children, adolescents, and teens, and counsels families from a Family Systems Model.
